Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Our Candles (and Maybe More!)

1. What makes The Art Plantation candles different?
We use 100% soy wax (a renewable resource) and pure essential oils for fragrance—no synthetic perfumes, no toxins. Plus, every glass jar is reused or donated by our community. So each candle has a little story of its own.

2. Do soy candles really burn cleaner?
Yes! Soy wax burns slower and cleaner than paraffin, which means less soot, less smoke, and a candle that lasts longer. It’s better for you and your air.

3. How do I burn my candle correctly?
Great question! The first time you light it, let the wax melt all the way to the edge of the jar—this prevents tunneling. Trim the wick to about 5mm before each burn for a steady flame and less smoke.

4. How long will my candle last?
It depends on the size, but generally:

  • Small jar: 20–25 hours

  • Medium jar: 35–40 hours

  • Large jar: 50+ hours
(Remember: soy wax is a slow burner!)

5. Why don’t your candles smell super strong like some store-bought ones?
That’s intentional! We use only essential oils—no chemical enhancers—so the scent is gentle, natural, and never overpowering. Think soothing botanical hug rather than perfume attack.

6. Are your candles safe for pets?
Yes—with a note of caution. Our candles are non-toxic and contain no synthetic fragrances. Still, always burn candles in a ventilated space and keep curious paws (and tails!) away from flames.

7. Can I reuse the jar when my candle is finished?
Absolutely! Just pop the jar in warm water to loosen the leftover wax, give it a wash, and voilà—you’ve got a storage jar, vase, or pen holder. Or, bring it back to us and it may get reborn as another candle.

8. Why don’t you buy new jars for your candles?
Because we believe the most sustainable jar is the one that already exists. Every reused jar saves resources and keeps glass out of the landfill. Plus, it makes each candle unique—no two jars are ever quite the same.

9. Do your candles make good gifts?
Yes, and people love the story behind them—hand-poured in the Azores, natural, sustainable, and beautifully simple. They’re thoughtful, practical, and they smell divine.

10. What should I do if my candle arrives damaged?
First, don’t worry—we pack them with love, but accidents can happen. Just get in touch with us, and we’ll sort it out quickly. We want your space glowing, not gloomy.
